Leather Sourcing in Italy

Leather Sourcing in Italy
Earlier this year we travelled to Florence, Italy to attend Pitti Uomo 92, one of the largest menswear exhibitions in the world.  With a free day before setting up at the show, we rented a car and headed west towards Pisa and the small town of Santa Croce.  At only 17 square kilometres Santa Croce manages to house over 400 leather tanneries and factories.  This riverside town has a deep rooted history in the leather industry and is responsible for producing more than three-quarters of all the leather used in Europe today.  In a single afternoon spent in Santa Croce and and the surrounding areas we were able to visit manufacturers of nearly every component involved in the shoe making process.  Follow along with us as we buy materials for the upcoming season and give you a behind the scenes look at some of Italy’s best leather showrooms, factories and tanneries. Derby Boot Brown Oiled Calf

Derby Boot Brown Oiled Calf
Since launching the Derby Boot late last year we have only offered the pattern in dressier leather options such as Shell Cordovan or Horsehide.  For this release we wanted to make a casual version of the boot, appropriate for everyday wear.  We are also introducing a new leather called Brown Oiled Calf, which is a full-grain calfskin from the UK with a pronounced grain and high wax content that comes to the surface with wear.  It's a comfortable leather out of the box and pairs perfectly with the lightweight Vibram 2060 Sole.  The boot is made on our new Cantilever last which has an anatomical shape based on vintage orthopaedic shoes.  Click through for the full feature and purchase the Derby Boot Brown Oiled Calf here

Slipper Dust Black Calf

Slipper Dust Black Calf
For our first non-suede Slipper we decided pull one of our favourite leathers out of the archive.  The Dust Black Calf is an full-grain Italian Calfskin with a "dust" finish that is applied by hand during the dying process.  This gives the leather a rich charcoal colour, with warm base tones that become more evident with wear.  Click through for the full feature and purchase the Slipper Dust Black Calf here

Slipper Milkshake Calf Suede

Slipper Milkshake Calf Suede
The Slipper in Milkshake Calf Suede is the third iteration of our newest seasonal silhouette.  Utilizing the same British, full-grain suede as our prior releases, this cream coloured version is ideal for the summer months.  Featuring a natural leather sole and, for the first time, a Dovetail heel which adds a slightly formal element to the otherwise casual offering.  Click through for the full feature and purchase the Slipper Milkshake Suede here.

Derby Boot Dark Cognac Shell Cordovan

Derby Boot Dark Cognac Shell Cordovan
Continuing our recent string of Shell Cordovan Derby Boots, we are excited to offer the rare Dark Cognac shade for the first time.  The simplified pattern of the Derby Boot is a perfect combination with the unique grain and shine of Horween's Shell Cordovan.  Dark Cognac is a deep, rich brown with lighter caramel-tones visible in direct sunlight.  Click through for the full feature and preorder the Derby Boot Dark Cognac Shell Cordovan here.
