On a recent trip to Italy we visited the showroom of one of our favourite leather tanneries. Amidst their typical offerings was a new product they were excited to show us which involved organic honey in the tanning process. Honey acts as a natural conditioner and in this case is used in place of some of the more traditional fats and oils typically found in leather. The resulting Horeshide is heavy, but supple with a distinct golden-brown tone and visible character. For this version of our Service Boot we opted to include a leather Heel Pull, Unstructured Toe and, for the first time ever, nine #3 Vintage Brass Eyelets. Our 8" Engineer pattern is a nod to vintage American motorcycle boots. For the first time we've produced this boot on our new 2050 Last which we originally developed for our Chelsea pattern. The slimmed down profile and almond shaped toe are truer to the vintage styles we are referencing and provide a snug, locked down fit. Similarly, the Black Horsebutt, which is heavy enough for use on a motorcycle, is the perfect choice for this classic style. Japanese roller buckles and a deadstock Cats Paw Sole round out the era appropriate details. Click through for the full feature and purchase the Engineer Black Horsebutt here.
The Chelsea is a great transitional boot as Fall weather approaches. The lightweight Vibram Morflex sole makes for a comfortable walk and the wholecut pattern and Goodyear Welt construction provide a natural waterproofing. Horween's Chamois is a heavily oiled nubuck leather with a saturated dye and napped finish on the roughout side. The Mushroom colour is a versatile brown-green shade that really transforms depending on the light. Click through for the full feature and purchase the Chelsea Mushroom Chamois Roughout here.
For our final Summer release of the year we restocked one of our favourite all-time leathers and utilized it on our most seasonal silhouette. The wholecut pattern of the Slipper allows the uniqueness of the the vegetable-tanned Norwegian Reindeer to shine through. The Natural Flat Welt and Leather Sole are a near colour match with the upper, giving the shoe a pleasing tonality. This is a high character, inconsistent leather that patinas quickly with wear. The Derby Shoe Black Horsehide is a companion piece to last week's Cigar Horsehide release. Once again the shoe features our updated pattern with a lowered outside Quarter, French Binding at the seams and 6 Blind Eyelets. Over the years we have offered five variations of the Derby Shoe in different black leathers, continually searching for the perfect combination of details and materials. With this release, in a glazed, full-grain Italian Horsehide, we feel we have arrived at a quintessential version of the wardrobe staple.
