Leather Highlight: Viking Calf

Our final instalment in our our week of Seasonal Leather Highlights - Viking Calf.

Marking our new partnership with Milwaukee tannery Gallun Leathers, we’ve utilized their Viking Calf in 2 colours, Brandy and Caper Green, for our AW22 collection.

Viking Calf is a leather from the turn of the century, with it’s original creation happening in the early 1900s. Ed Gallun, 5 generations from the founder, has spent the last several decades revising archived leather recipes - including Viking Calf. It took close to a year (and required several meetings between Brett Viberg and Ed Gallun) to reproduce the Viking Calf tannage formula with today’s available chemicals and materials. The final product is a high veg content, semi-chrome tannage with an exceptionally tight break. A special finish is utilized to enhance the natural, rich depth that aniline calf leather is known for. In addition, a custom wax blend is used, which allows for a distinct shine, and elegant look and feel.

The refined look of the leather is contrasted with its sturdiness and durability. Viking Calf is much less delicate than traditional calf leathers - it is a heavyweight leather that features natural abrasion and water resistance due to its custom finishing. Viking Calf is a leather that is made to last a lifetime.

We’ve selected 2 colours of Viking Calf - Brandy and Caper Green, for several styles from our Refined and Classic Colletion. Brandy is a deep red brown, and Caper Green is a green with brown tones.
