With an architectural focus on clean lines and a technical approach to finding the perfect silhouette, the Refined collection is the result of our desire to create a series of products that evolve beyond our industrial history.
The products in this collection employ the highest degree of craftsmanship, in limited production runs, using carefully selected small-batch leathers, to create the perfect balance between formal and rugged.
The Bastion is an archival pattern that dates back to 1960, when Ed Viberg created both an oxford and a derby style shoe, each of which were only in production for around 15 years.
We have updated the original style with a tightly trimmed heel and waist, giving it a clean, timeless, silhouette.
The inside and outside waist has been trimmed with a round blade, allowing it to contour to the shape of the last. It is made using our Viberg Channeled Insole Goodyear Welt.
The Bastion name references Bastion Square in Victoria which was created in the early 1960s to house the Law Chambers and Supreme Court buildings.
The Bastion was designed to be worn with a casual suit or trouser, though it also pairs well with denim when done in an earth-tone suede.
The Halkett Boot is inspired by a Canadian Military Officer pattern. The last is drafted to sit above the ankle and it's refined shape is expressed through a tightly hand-trimmed heel and waist.
The name Halkett name comes from Deadman’s (Halkett) Island which sits at the entrance to Victoria’s harbor and has been an active Canadian naval station since WWII.
Using a round blade, our master craftsmen trim the inside and outside waist, allowing the material to contour to the shape of the last.
The throat of the boot provides for very close lacing to create a more elegant look. It is made using our Viberg Channeled Insole Goodyear Welt.
The Herald is a zipper boot with a single piece upper.
The entire boot is hand-blocked, or "crimped", to ensure that it closely contours to the shape of the ankle. To accentuate this refined elegance, the Herald is finished with a tightly trimmed heel and waist.
Consistent with the aesthetic of our Refined collection, the inside and outside waist of the boot are hand-trimmed, with a round blade, allowing the leather to form to the shape of the last. It is made using our Viberg Channelled Insole Goodyear Welt.
The Herald was named after the street that has been home to our Victoria workshop for the last 40 years.
