Repairs: Derby Shoe Grey Calf

Repairs is a series highlighting some of the most interesting and well-worn boots that come back to our factory for maintenance.  We've shot these boots in a studio setting to specifically showcase their patina and character .  This offers a glimpse into the aging process of our materials and the unique journey behind every pair of boots.

This pair of Derby Shoes in Grey Calf belongs to Kent Kilroe, Managing Director of Freemans Sporting Club.  Kent is based in the Lower East Side of NYC and has worn these shoes regularly for over three years.  The Grey Calf is a vegetable-tanned leather from the 120 year old Italian tannery Guidi & Rosellini.  Originally a deep charcoal colour, the years of wear have revealed the leather's brown undertones.  The unstructured toe box has fully collapsed and the upper is littered with deep creases and scuffs.  Kent wears them proudly and after replacing the sole we intentionally left the shoes unpolished to preserve their unique colour and patina.
